Abstract
The article focuses on a study examining the relationship between athlete-perceived coaching competency and the motivational processes of youth football players in Badajoz, Spain. Conducted with 624 male players aged 12-18, the research found that perceptions of coaching competencies—specifically in motivation, game strategy, technical-tactical skills, and character-building—positively influenced players' satisfaction of basic psychological needs. The study concluded that effective coaching is crucial for fostering high-quality motivation among youth athletes, as need satisfaction was linked to more self-determined forms of motivation, while need frustration correlated with less self-determined motivations. The research was supported by the Consejera de Educación y Empleo, Junta de Extremadura, and has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
