Abstract

Oscar Pistorius, the South African Olympian athlete who was convicted of murdering his girlfriend in 2013, will be released on parole starting January 5th. Pistorius, known as the Blade Runner for his carbon-fiber prosthetics, won six Paralympic gold medals. He shot Reeva Steenkamp in his home, claiming he mistook her for an intruder. Initially convicted of manslaughter, his sentence was later changed to murder and extended to 15 years. The prisons department has granted him parole with specific conditions, including curfews and abstaining from alcohol and prohibited substances. [Extracted from the article]
