Abstract

The article focuses on the feasibility and preliminary outcomes of Team Prime Time (TPT), a collaborative after-school inclusive sports program designed for adolescents with disabilities and neurotypical peer coaches in underserved urban high schools. TPT integrates students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) into competitive varsity-level sports alongside trained neurotypical peers, aiming to foster social–emotional development, service learning, and school engagement. Over three years, 141 athletes with disabilities and 70 neurotypical coaches participated across seven diverse high schools, with findings indicating high satisfaction among athletes and significant improvements in coaches' perceptions of their impact on athlete responsibility and their own perspective-taking abilities. The program demonstrated sustainability within the schools and offers a replicable model that may enhance social inclusion and developmental outcomes for both populations in similar educational settings.
