Abstract
Singapore has ended over 180 years of horse racing in order to make way for new homes. The Singapore Turf Club hosted its final race day before its track is handed back to the government. The decision to end horse racing was met with shock, but the sport was already in decline with decreasing spectatorship. The site will be bulldozed to accommodate the growing population, and the government has stated that this is necessary to ensure sufficient land for future generations. Horse racing in Singapore has always faced challenges due to the need for land, and the sport has been overshadowed by other activities such as the annual Formula 1 motor race. The closure of the horse racing track marks the end of an era for many long-time attendees, but it is seen as a necessary step for the city's development. [Extracted from the article]
