Abstract
This article from Kansas History provides a profile of Vivian Vance, a well-known entertainer. Born in Cherryvale, Kansas in 1909, Vance moved to Independence, Kansas at a young age. Despite her mother's disapproval, she pursued acting and eventually changed her surname to Vance. She began her career in Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to New York City and making her Broadway debut. Vance went on to have a successful career in Hollywood, with notable roles in both silent films and talkies. Her most famous role was Ethel Mertz in the television show I Love Lucy, for which she received an Emmy award. Vance also had a deep friendship with Lucille Ball, both on and off set. She continued to perform in both Broadway and Albuquerque throughout her career. Unfortunately, Vance suffered a stroke in 1977 and passed away from breast cancer two years later. She was posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991. [Extracted from the article]
