Abstract
This article focuses on the importance of sharpening practical math skills for business leaders in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). It argues that while AI excels at precise, academic math, effective business decision-making requires adaptable, approximate reasoning that humans must maintain and develop. The author presents three key concepts—TRY (thinking and reasoning independently), DO (distinguishing decisions from outcomes using probabilistic thinking), and WIN (understanding non-linear, multiplicative dynamics through tools like the Kelly Criterion)—to enhance managerial math fluency. Emphasizing that math remains the core language of business, the article highlights that human judgment combined with math skills is essential to effectively leverage AI and navigate complex, real-world problems.
