Time-series analysis of radon concentrations for Bengaluru's atmosphere.

Abstract

This article focuses on the analysis of radon (222Rn) activity concentration and its relationship with meteorological parameters measured continuously at Bangalore University, Bengaluru, during 2018. Using the AlphaGUARD PQ 2000 PRO radon detector and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis, the study identified clear diurnal and sub-diurnal cycles in radon levels, with higher concentrations during winter months and lower levels during the monsoon season, attributed to atmospheric processes and soil moisture effects. The mean radon activity was 8.06 ± 0.56 Bq/m³, with temperature averaging 28.96 °C, relative humidity 55.2%, and pressure 918 mbar. These findings highlight the influence of local atmospheric stability and weather conditions on radon variability in the lower atmosphere.
