Abstract

This study focuses on the multifaceted water crisis in Bangalore, India, analyzing how geopolitical tensions, climate change, and anthropogenic factors collectively exacerbate regional water scarcity. Central to the crisis is the longstanding Cauvery River water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which affects Bangalore’s water supply amid erratic monsoon patterns and declining groundwater recharge due to climate variability. Rapid urbanization, population growth, land use changes, and the degradation of natural lakes further strain water resources, while fragmented governance complicates sustainable management. The study proposes both immediate adaptation measures—such as promoting water-saving behaviors and remote work—and long-term mitigation strategies including institutional consolidation, lake restoration, equitable interstate water sharing, and mandatory rainwater harvesting to enhance Bangalore’s water resilience.
