Abstract

The article focuses on the use of a mid-1800s x-ray film pinhole camera as an educational tool to introduce radiography students at the College of Southern Idaho to medical imaging concepts. From 2002 to 2020, this hands-on exercise helped students understand image projection, x-ray production, and intensifying screens by building and using a simple camera made from x-ray film boxes and pinholes. Despite the rise of digital imaging, the analog pinhole camera activity remained valuable for illustrating differences between analog and digital processes while fostering student collaboration and engagement.
