Abstract

The article focuses on MetAlert Inc's development of the GPS SmartSole, a discreet GPS tracking device embedded in shoe insoles designed to help locate vulnerable individuals with Alzheimer's, dementia, and cognitive impairments. This technology enables caregivers to set customizable geozones and receive alerts if the wearer wanders beyond safe boundaries, balancing safety with personal independence. The device's stealth design addresses challenges faced by users who might reject visible tracking wearables, and its global connectivity, supported by Pod Group's ENO ONE eSIM platform, allows use across 185 countries. Ethical considerations around privacy vary by region, with some countries requiring consent, but many care providers and organizations worldwide have adopted the technology to enhance safeguarding.
