Abstract

This article explores the work of three beadwork artists who are mastering the art form. Beadwork is an important cultural practice that reflects tribal affiliation, region, and history. The Santa Fe Indian Market provides an opportunity to witness the mastery of beadwork artists from various communities. The artists highlighted in the article, Hollis Chitto, Leith Mahkewa, and Vashti Etzel, each have their own unique tribal styles that they have mastered while also incorporating contemporary elements.
