Abstract

The article focuses on Nur Jahan, the Mughal consort who became a powerful co-ruler of the Mughal Empire during the reign of her husband, Emperor Jahangir. Born Mihr un-Nisa in 1577 to a noble Persian family, she rose to prominence after her first husband was killed, eventually marrying Jahangir in 1611. Nur Jahan was unique for her unprecedented political influence, issuing imperial orders and even having coins minted in her name, which was a significant assertion of her power. Despite facing criticism and attempts to diminish her legacy after Jahangir's death in 1627, she is remembered as a multifaceted figure who contributed to the arts, philanthropy, and governance, leaving a lasting impact on Mughal history.
