Abstract
The article focuses on Raphael's painting *The Transfiguration*, considered a masterpiece of the Italian High Renaissance and housed in the Vatican Museum's Pinacoteca. Commissioned by Cardinal Giulio de Medici, it depicts the biblical event from Matthew's Gospel where Jesus is transfigured on a mountain, shown in the painting's upper half with Moses and Elijah. The lower half contrasts this with a chaotic scene of the disciples struggling to heal an epileptic boy, illustrating the tension between divine power and human suffering. The work is noted for its dual composition, symbolizing the interaction between spiritual transcendence and earthly need.
