Abstract

The article focuses on Adobe's AI-based Lens Blur Tool, available in Lightroom Version 13.0.1 and Photoshop ACR Version 16, which simulates the blurred background effect typically produced by fast photographic lenses. It explains how the tool generates a depth map to differentiate foreground, subject, and background distances, allowing users to adjust blur amount, bokeh style, and focal range interactively. The tool also permits manual refinement of the depth map using brush adjustments to correct AI inaccuracies. While not a complete replacement for fast lenses, the Lens Blur Tool offers photographers post-processing flexibility to achieve realistic background blur effects with standard lenses.
