Abstract

The final chapter, which takes the portrait of Odoni as a microcosm for the larger collection, is the most sophisticated in the arguments it presents, and the richest discussion in the entire book. Rich in primary sources and well illustrated, Schmitter's study links extant works (or similar ones) to descriptions of Odoni's palace and the inventory of its contents. Monika Schmitter's book takes as its focus the art collector Andrea Odoni, exploring in depth his palace and its decorations, the types of objects and paintings on display, and the famous portrait painting of Odoni by Lorenzo Lotto.
