Abstract

The article focuses on the recent emergence and application of computer vision techniques in visual political communication research, highlighting their expansion over the past five years across multiple disciplines. It reviews how computational methods, particularly deep learning models like convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have been used to analyze political protest imagery, candidate self-presentation, affective polarization, gender stereotypes, debate performances, public policy compliance, and electoral fraud. The article also addresses ethical concerns related to privacy, surveillance, and data representativeness, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and careful consideration of methodological and ethical challenges in this evolving field.
