Abstract

The article reviews the exhibition *Paul Poiret, La Mode Est Une Fête* held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, which presents the most extensive retrospective of the early twentieth-century French couturier Paul Poiret (1879–1944). The exhibition highlights Poiret’s multifaceted career as a designer, entrepreneur, and cultural strategist, showcasing over 550 works that span fashion, interiors, perfumes, and artistic collaborations, emphasizing his pioneering role in lifestyle branding and experiential luxury. It explores thematic areas such as his artistic partnerships, innovative marketing through travel and lavish events, and ventures into decorative arts and perfumery. While the exhibition offers a comprehensive and vibrant portrayal of Poiret’s influence on modern fashion, it omits critical aspects of his later life, including financial decline and death in poverty, and some curatorial choices affect the clarity and focus on his legacy.
