Abstract

The article focuses on the fundraising efforts of the New York State Nursing Council for War Service through the promotion of a 12-inch fashion doll, known as the "Nurse Fashiondol," during World War II. The initiative aimed to recruit nursing students and raise funds for the Council's wartime efforts, with a portion of each doll's sale supporting local Nursing Councils. Released in the fall of 1944, the doll was marketed as an attractive option for girls, encouraging creativity through included patterns for nurse uniforms. By January 1945, a significant number of the dolls had been sold, reflecting the project's success in both fundraising and promoting the nursing profession. [Extracted from the article]
