Abstract
This article examines the role of photojournalism in framing the opposition political party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and its leader Nelson Chamisa in Zimbabwe’s political communication landscape. Using visual framing theory, it analyzes photographs taken primarily by freelance photojournalists that portray Chamisa as youthful and vibrant, symbolizing a "new dawn" for Zimbabwe amid political repression and internal party struggles. The images also highlight the party’s challenges, such as lacking a clear constitution or ideological stance, while rally photographs emphasize popular support within opposition strongholds. The study underscores the significance of visuals in shaping political narratives and argues that freelance photojournalists contribute to oppositional journalism by influencing both local and international perceptions of Zimbabwe’s political dynamics.
