Abstract

Silas Kopf, a furniture maker, discovered his passion for marquetry after working with Wendell Castle. He taught himself marquetry by reading books and experimenting, and later found inspiration in the work of Antonio Barili, a master of intarsia, during a trip to Italy. Kopf has since created several marquetry self-portraits in furniture, with his most recent one completed in 2023. The cabinet is evidence of his hard work, and it appears that he is finding more ease in his craft. [Extracted from the article]
