Abstract

The exhibition *Celebrating Heritage Month: Zulu Beadwork: Legacy and Luxury*, held at the Empangeni Art and Cultural Museum from September to November 2024, focused on the cultural heritage, artistic evolution, and entrepreneurial potential of Zulu beadwork. Curated by Lindelwa Pepu with support from Zamani Gwamanda and Siyanda Mchunu, the exhibition showcased traditional and contemporary beadwork by local artists Zanele Myeni, Mantombi Mkhwanazi, Linda Masinga, and painter Derrick Zulu, highlighting the craft's role in cultural identity and intergenerational storytelling. It aligned with UNESCO's Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage by promoting the dynamic preservation and innovation of Zulu traditions. The exhibition also served as an educational platform for students and the community, fostering appreciation for beadwork as fine art and supporting economic opportunities through direct sales and expanded networks via social media and university collaborations.
