Abstract

This article examines the significant transformations affecting photojournalism professionals in the context of the hybrid media environment shaped by digitalization over the past three decades. It highlights how digital technologies have accelerated image distribution and altered traditional media structures, leading to reduced in-house photography departments and a rise in freelance photojournalists who increasingly work across journalism, commercial photography, public relations, and NGO sectors. This diversification blurs professional boundaries and complicates adherence to established journalistic values and ethics. Despite these challenges, the article emphasizes the continued importance of professionally curated, trustworthy visual information for democratic societies amid the complex, fast-paced, and polyphonic media landscape.
