The Echoes of Feminism in the Dual‐Career Family.

Research on dual‐career families explores different aspects that influence the work–family relationship for couples who aim to develop their careers while having a family life. However, this literature fails in recognizing the contributions of feminism to question and rethink the role of women in the dual‐career relationship. Therefore, the objective of this study is to reflect upon the dual‐career family from the perspective of several aspects of feminism and its influences on the couple's career paths. To this effect, various elements that appear in the literature on dual‐career families were discussed and problematized from a feminist perspective: the role of organizations, the sexual division of labor, the meanings of career, as well as women who are invisible in these studies. As a theoretical contribution this essay provides the approximation of the dual‐career family studies with feminist theories, enabling a redefinition of the concept and renewal of research on this topic.
