Abstract

An interview with Shengchi Hsu, a poet-translator, is presented, exploring their journey of translating contemporary Anglophone poetry into Chinese and the ideas shaping their literary choices. Topics include the selection of poets such as Carol Ann Duffy, Louise Glück and Alice Oswald for translation, the belief that poets often reach their creative peak around the age of fifty, and a translation practice influenced by classical Chinese poetry and the principles of faithfulness and elegance.
