Abstract
The exhibition "The Woman Question 1550-2025" at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw presents nearly 200 works by around 140 women artists spanning five centuries, highlighting the ongoing challenges to women’s rights and feminist achievements. Curated by Alison M. Gingeras, the show draws on historical and contemporary feminist themes, featuring allegorical, figurative paintings and sculptures that explore women’s agency, mastery of their image, and bodily autonomy. The exhibition includes sections addressing education, power, surrealist self-portraits, and the medical and political control of women’s bodies, concluding with works reflecting wartime experiences and current struggles for reproductive rights in Poland. It situates women’s artistic contributions within broader social and political contexts, emphasizing the persistent threats to gender equality. [Extracted from the article]
