Abstract

The article focuses on a study examining the career development of Dr. Mamphela Ramphele, a prominent South African activist, through the lens of industrial and organizational psychology. Conducted at the University of Johannesburg, the qualitative research employs a psychobiographical approach and the Greenhaus model of career development to analyze the various influences on Ramphele's career, including apartheid laws, social and cultural factors, and personal challenges. The findings highlight the unique obstacles faced by black women in South Africa, providing insights that may assist industrial and organizational psychologists and career counselors in understanding these challenges. The study contributes to the literature on the psychobiographies of black women activists in South Africa, particularly during the apartheid and post-apartheid eras. [Extracted from the article]
