Abstract
This article discusses the barriers to belonging that women of color face in the tech industry. The author conducted a survey and interviews with women of color in technology to measure their sense of belonging and identify the top contributors and detractors. The study found that women of color reported a mediocre sense of belonging, with variations based on ethnicity. Peer-based relationships were identified as the top positive contributor to their sense of belonging, while organizational culture was the biggest detractor.
