Abstract

The article focuses on the geographic job mobility of partnered women compared to partnered men, highlighting that partnered women are significantly less likely to apply for jobs requiring relocation. Utilizing an original dataset from the National Longitudinal Study of Job Search (NLSJS), the research reveals that this disparity persists even after accounting for structural labor market features and occupational sorting. The findings suggest that gendered household dynamics, rather than economic maximization, play a crucial role in shaping these mobility decisions, indicating that partnered women face unique barriers in their job search processes.
