Abstract

The article focuses on the 67th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) held in March 2023, which centered on the theme of innovation, technological change, and education in the digital age to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls. It highlights concerns about biases in artificial intelligence (AI) systems, particularly how non-diverse data sets can perpetuate discrimination against women, minorities, and marginalized groups, with examples such as facial recognition failures in migration apps. The European Commission's efforts, including the Artificial Intelligence Act and a digital education action plan promoting gender-balanced STEM education, are discussed as measures to address these issues. The article also emphasizes the importance of education and technology in challenging gender stereotypes and expanding access to resources for women and girls globally.
