Abstract
The article focuses on research conducted in Chiba, Japan, which examines the relationship between exercise habits, body satisfaction, thin-ideal internalization, and self-esteem among young women. It highlights that approximately 20-25% of young women in Japan are underweight, influenced by societal pressures equating thinness with beauty and health. The study surveyed 400 underweight women and 189 women of normal weight, finding that exercise habits significantly mediate the relationship between reduced thin-ideal internalization and improved self-esteem and body satisfaction in underweight women, while normal-weight women benefit more from interventions aimed at boosting self-esteem. The findings underscore the need for tailored approaches to address body image issues based on body mass index. [Extracted from the article]
