Abstract
The article focuses on efforts to enhance gender diversity in policing by examining a Gender-Responsive Policing Summit convened by the International and Nebraska Associations of Women Police (IAWP/NAWP) and UN Women. It highlights that despite ongoing support, women remain underrepresented in US policing, though barriers vary across organizations. The study summarizes lessons from the Summit, identifying key themes such as strategic planning, leadership and promotion, health and wellness policies, and support initiatives aimed at improving recruitment, retention, and the overall experience of women in policing. These findings offer practical strategies for police agencies seeking to advance gender-responsive practices internationally.
