Abstract

The article discusses the upcoming 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and highlights various organizations that are planning events to commemorate this historic event. These organizations include The Society of the Cincinnati, Sons of the Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Children of the American Revolution. The article also emphasizes the importance of the Johannes Schwalm Historical Association (JSHA), which represents descendants of German Auxiliary Troops known as "Hessians." The JSHA encourages its members to participate in local and state events organized by America250 and other organizations, as well as contribute to the JSHA's operating budget or endowment fund. The author shares their personal involvement in events related to the American Revolution and the Hessian heritage, and discusses plans for the JSHA Annual Meetings in 2027 and 2028, with a focus on the theme of Hessians in captivity and the Burgoyne Campaign in New York. The author suggests getting Rob Lowe as a speaker due to his ancestral connection to a Hessian prisoner, and considers holding the meeting in Lancaster or Reading, or even having a day at each location. For the 2028 meeting, the idea of a bus tour from Lancaster to New York to Philadelphia is proposed. The author also invites individuals with a passion for Hessians to join the JSHA as board members.
