Abstract
This article focuses on the phylogeography and genetic diversity of the epibiont barnacle Chelonibia testudinaria in the Persian Gulf and its genetic connectivity with western Pacific populations, using the mitochondrial COX1 marker. The study found no significant genetic differentiation between Persian Gulf and western Pacific populations, suggesting moderate gene flow likely facilitated by migratory sea turtles rather than larval dispersal or host crabs, which have limited dispersal ranges. The Persian Gulf population exhibited lower genetic diversity compared to western Pacific populations, possibly due to its peripheral geographic position and founder effects. These findings support the role of sea turtle migration in shaping the distribution and genetic structure of C. testudinaria across the Indo-West Pacific region.
