Abstract

This article focuses on the transcriptomic analysis of embryonic development in the mud crab (Scylla paramamosain), a species of significant economic importance in China's aquaculture industry. Using RNA sequencing, the study examined gene expression patterns across five key embryonic stages—blastula, nauplius, eyespot, heartbeating, and prehatching—identifying six distinct gene expression clusters that reflect complex developmental processes. The findings highlight a decline in immune-related gene expression and a gradual increase in genes associated with nutrition and energy metabolism as development progresses, alongside stage-specific transcription factor activity, particularly within the homeobox family. These insights provide a molecular foundation for improving artificial breeding and cultivation strategies for mud crab aquaculture.
