Abstract
In this chapter the author will look at spirits, monsters and the weird to uncover exchanges and similarities between Japan and Europe. From the early beginnings of the publications by Lafcadio Hearn in the late 19th and early 20th century to modern day computer games and anime, Europe and Japan have been inspired and amazed by the supernatural entities of the other. The author further demonstrates that supernatural entities are related to and specific for natural and social realities and human life conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
