Abstract
The article focuses on the farming behaviors of termites, specifically the species Odontotermes obesus, and their methods for managing unwanted fungi that threaten their cultivated crops of the fungus Termitomyces. Researchers found that these termites bury contaminated food sources in soil containing antifungal microbes, which help control the growth of harmful fungi like Pseudoxylaria. The study reveals that termites exhibit sophisticated behaviors in response to fungal infections, such as cleaning or burying their comb based on the severity of the threat. The findings aim to enhance understanding and appreciation of the complex biology and ecological roles of these often-overlooked insects. [Extracted from the article]
