Abstract

REGULARSWaddling over the stones of South Georgia Island, there are around 25,000 pairs of king penguins within this colony. During Antarctic winter, thousands of chicks hatch on the island. Each female will lay a single egg, and it takes around 10 to 13 months for chicks to fledge. In a sea of fuzzy, brown juvenile fluff, penguin parents rely on sophisticated vocalisations to recognise one another. [Extracted from the article]
