Abstract
This article focuses on the effects of maternal exposure to methylparaben (Mep), a common organic pollutant, on the offspring of the rotifer Brachionus calyciflorus. The study investigated how Mep exposure in amictic (parthenogenetic) and mictic (sexual reproduction) mothers influences offspring population growth, life history traits, and antioxidant responses. Results showed that maternal Mep exposure inhibited offspring population performance in both reproductive phases, with the negative effects being less pronounced in the sexual reproduction phase. The findings contribute to understanding the toxicity of Mep and the differing maternal response patterns across rotifer life history phases.
