Animals in War: Opportunities for Critical Thinking and Empathy.

Abstract

The article focuses on how studying animals in wartime contexts can re-engage students with twentieth-century conflict history by developing higher order critical thinking and empathy skills. Topics include the story of Simpson and his donkeys at Gallipoli, the role and fate of the Australian Light Horse in World War I, and how questioning myths and national identity can deepen historical understanding.
