Abstract
The article focuses on the life and contributions of Peter Merrett, a prominent figure in arachnology who passed away in January 2025. Born in 1936, Merrett had a distinguished career as a zoologist, serving as a Principal Scientific Officer at the Nature Conservancy and editing the Bulletin of the British Arachnological Society for 37 years. He was known for his extensive work on British spiders, including the rediscovery of the ladybird spider Eresus sandaliatus and his role in establishing the UK’s Spider Recording Scheme.
