G. C. Edmondson was the pseudonym of Jose Mario Garry Ordonez Edmondson y Cotton, born in 1922. Edmondson may have cultivated confusion about his place of birth. On the one hand, Edmondson claimed to have been born in Hermosa de Rascuachitlan, Tabasco, Mexico. On the other hand, he was reported to have been born to Mexican parents in Washington state. Yet another reported birthplace was Guatemala.
Edmondson also claimed to have had no postsecondary education. However, at one time he was reported to have earned an M.D. in Austria, although he never practiced medicine. He also reportedly served in the U.S. Marine Corps between 1942 and 1946.
In 1965, Edmondson published The Ship That Sailed the Time Stream. The science-fiction novel was about the American naval ship Alice, which was part of a classified submarine warfare program. The crew of the Alice was involved with the black market. After the ship was hit by lightening, the crew members found themselves at the end of the first millennium, in Norwegian waters, where they rescued a damsel in distress. The woman returned the favor when the Alice got sucked into another time warp, in which the crew encountered the fall of the Roman Empire. The Ship That Sailed the Time Stream received a Nebula Award nomination for Best Novel in1966.
Edmondson wrote additional science-fiction and fantasy novels. He also wrote Western novels under the pseudonym Kelly P. Gast. He died of cancer in 1995.
