Romance is a genre with a vast, voracious readership — and a huge number of books. More than half of the mass-market paperbacks sold in the U.S. are romance! The last time we did a crash course on this "loverly" genre was in 2019, so it’s time for a refresh.

Whether your readers are fans of second chance at romance or grumpy sunshine, let NoveList and LibraryReads show you the love with the best that romance offers your readers — from forbidden love to love in a small town. If you’re intimidated by the thought of helping romance readers or want to get ahead of the curve, this webinar is for you.

Join Halle Carlson, former NoveList employee, and Migdalia Jimenez, Librarian at Chicago Public Library, as they cover:

  • Popular subgenres and themes

  • Authors you want to know

  • How to help readers of romance

  • Other helpful resources for this genre

We welcome you to stay for an additional 15-minute NoveList training. Learn search strategy tips and where to find genre-related information in NoveList so you can provide the best possible service to your readers.

Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 2 p.m. EST (USA)

Optional NoveList training from 3-3:15 p.m. EST (USA)

Attendance at the live webinar is free. A recording of the webinar and bonus content will be available free to all registrants for two weeks afterward. After that, all resources, including the recording, will be available on learnwithnovelist.com for a small fee.

Meet the panelists:

A former NoveList employee, Halle Carlson spent a dozen years working in public libraries and is now a content strategist, reviewer for Booklist, and NoveList advisor. You can hear her chatting about books bi-weekly on the Well-Read podcast. She's a sucker for a book with a happy ending and when she's not reading you can find her outside taking a walk, volunteering for a local animal rescue, or snuggling with her dogs.

Migdalia Jimenez is a librarian at the Chicago Public Library. She was named Reviewer of the Year by Library Journal in 2022 and serves on the LibraryReads Board. Her favorite genres are romance, science fiction, and nonfiction. When she’s not reading, she loves traveling, cooking, riding her bike, listening to podcasts, and playing with her four cats.

Moderator Yaika Sabat comes from a background in public libraries and now manages the Reader Services team at NoveList. While she is a horror fan first, she does her best to read across genres and is passionate about diverse representation in books and media.

Leigh Gaddy is the Lead/Demand Generation Marketing Specialist at NoveList. She is currently reading The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison.
