Dublin Business School Implements PlumX

~ Will Use the Metrics Tool to Showcase the Impact of Research Output at the College~

IPSWICH, Mass.March 15, 2015 — The Dublin Business School (DBS), Ireland’s largest independent third level college, is the first institution in Ireland to take advantage of the unique research metrics provided by PlumX from Plum™ Analytics, an EBSCO company. DBS is confident that PlumX will play a key role in exposing its faculty’s research output and promoting its value to current and prospective students, and to the academic community.

Head Librarian Marie O’Neill says Dublin Business School plans to leverage the research metrics tracked by PlumX— which include usage, captures, mentions, social media and citations — to publicize the research taking place at DBS. “PlumX provides DBS with the opportunity to publicly showcase the research output and impact of the College. Demonstrating the research activity of faculty is an integral aspect of programme accreditation and validation, and PlumX offers transparency to quality assurance agencies in terms of showcasing — on open access — the research output and impact of an institution.”

Dublin Business School will integrate PlumX with the school’s institutional repository (IR), so that the impact of any research output added to the IR can be measured by PlumX. This provides valuable benefits to authors, potential contributors and users alike. “Institutional repositories can incorporate PlumX analytics, which unites two invaluable research resources in the College,” O’Neill said, when discussing the value of pairing PlumX with the College’s eSource IR. “The software provides a wider range of research impact metrics than is available from institutional repositories alone, such as references to scholarly work in social media. PlumX was a logical next step for DBS Library after the establishment of our eSource institutional repository.”

O’Neill remains optimistic about the value PlumX will bring to Dublin Business School, not only in terms showing its research output, but also for marketing the College and solidifying its national accreditation. “Plum has huge marketing value for the institution. It will also be critical in forging collaborative relationships and in the context of institutional review and programmatic review by Quality and Qualifications Ireland.”
