IPSWICH, Mass. — February 23, 2015 — The University Library of Pécs in Hungary has chosen EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) as its library discovery tool to help promote usage of key library resources. The EDS unified index, ability to search all library records and highly relevant results were main factors in the university’s decision to implement the service.
The university subscribes to more than 20 databases and e-book collections as well as hundreds of e-journals that are integral to its students’ research. Dr. Ágnes Fischer-Dárdai, University Library of Pecs Director General, and Reka Bartha, E-Resources Manager, say they chose EDS to help increase usage of these resources, noting that the superior relevance ranking of EDS helps users better access useful content in a single search. “EDS offers high relevancy in its search, recovering results from all e-resources, including the databases, e-journals and e-catalogue records available in our library.”
Another reason for choosing EDS was its unified index of metadata from the university’s internal and external resources. Bartha says that this index allows users to more easily search the library’s entire collection than was possible with the federated search tool it previously utilized. Noting the superiority of EBSCO discovery technology over federated searching, she says, “The base was not a unified index, so our users could not obtain relevant results in some cases, including those from any e-resources through publishers.”
EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful, means of accessing all of that content from a single search box—searching made even more powerful because of the quality of its relevance and value ranking technology.
