Marta Soto, Training Specialist at American Psychological Association (APA), recently presented a brief but informative webinar demonstrating APA PsycTherapy® on EBSCOhost® and EBSCO Discovery Service™.

APA PsycTherapy is a unique video-based teaching tool from the APA that features demonstrations of therapy sessions by renowned psychologists.

Here are five examples of the types of video demonstrations in APA PsycTherapy:

  1. Dr. Michelle G. Craske and Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Anxiety Disorders
    Craske works with a female client who is in her 20s and has symptoms of an anxiety disorder. Michelle G. Craske has published extensively in the area of fear and anxiety disorders. She has written academic books on the topics of the etiology and treatment of anxiety disorders, gender differences in anxiety, and translation from the basic science of fear learning to the understanding and treating of phobias, in addition to several self-help books and therapist guides.

     
  2. Dr. Jonathan Abramowitz and Exposure Therapy for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
    Jonathan S. Abramowitz is a clinical psychologist and internationally recognized authority on obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety disorders. Dr. Abramowitzapproaches the understanding and treatment of these problems from a cognitive-behavioral perspective. Using cognitive behavior therapy, he works with a White male client in his 50s who suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and resulting anxiety.

     
  3. Dr. Mary A. Fristad and Child Depression
    Dr. Fristad's research focuses on assessment and treatment of mood disorders in children. She has written more than 200 publications, including books and workbooks for parents, children and clinicians on how to assess and treat children with mood disorders. In this session, Dr. Mary Fristad demonstrates one stage of a multi-prong, manualized psychoeducational psychotherapy approach for childhood depression with a girl who is currently in the sixth grade.

     
  4. Dr. Jeffrey J. Magnavita and Personality-Guided Relational Psychotherapy for Abuse and Trauma Victims
    Dr. Magnavita is an internationally recognized psychologist, psychotherapist, lecturer and theorist known for his scholarly work on personality disorders, theories of personality, psychotherapy, clinical decision making, and technology. Dr. Magnavita demonstrates his personality-guided relational psychotherapeutic approach with an adult woman in an ongoing abusive and toxic relationship with her mother.

     
  5. Dr. Julian Ford and A Transtheoretical Transdiagnostic Framework for Trauma Work
    In this session, Dr. Julian D. Ford works with an older adult, Black, male Vietnam veteran presenting with posttraumatic stress, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Ford has developed and conducted randomized clinical trial and effectiveness studies with the Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapy (TARGET ©) model for youths and adults with developmental trauma histories and complex PTSD.

Each APA PsycTherapy record includes the video, transcript and a detailed description in a single view. Users can rewind or fast forward and turn captions on or off. Many videos are broken into segments so users can jump to, and save, the most relevant section. The transcript can be searched by keyword. The record includes a description of the therapeutic approach or approaches, the therapist’s biography and the topics.
