Jorge Tadeo Lozano University to Adopt the FOLIO LSP

~ Colombia’s First University to Adopt FOLIO will be Implementing with EBSCO FOLIO Services ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — November 30, 2021 — Jorge Tadeo Lozano University (UTadeo) has become the first library in Colombia to choose FOLIO as its Library Services Platform (LSP). The university will use EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) for implementation and hosting services via EBSCO FOLIO. UTadeo has begun implementation and has plans to go fully live on FOLIO in May 2022.

Adopting FOLIO and leveraging EBSCO services and its implementation team offers UTadeo implementation, staff licenses and technical support, as well as, embedding of electronic resources, statistical analysis and more. The transition to FOLIO will provide the university with a more efficient management system including the optimization of e-resources and the incorporation and creation of additional modules that meets library staff needs and enables the library to grow. UTadeo’s implementation will provide other libraries in the region a successful example of how libraries can implement an open-source library software.

The Director of the UTadeo Library System, Claudia Virginia Becerra, says the decision to move to EBSCO FOLIO came after a rigorous process of analysis including an interdisciplinary team that involved technology and organizational development areas. "The flexibility in FOLIO's functionality was the differentiating element for choosing it, the possibilities of collaboration, quick updates and the integration of various tools, are several of the advantages that will save costs, maximize processes and improve our decision making." During this collaboration the team considered the advances in the new releases of FOLIO and the successful implementations EBSCO FOLIO at more than 30 institutions worldwide.

EBSCO’s lead FOLIO Implementation Consultant, Alexander Soto, says the implementation of FOLIO will be a point of reference for Colombian institutions looking for an open source. “EBSCO FOLIO provides libraries like UTadeo with a highly experienced implementation team of consultant implementers, project managers and library engineers to support the implementation and development of FOLIO.”

UTadeo is an existing EBSCO Discovery Service customer and will be able to maintain the front end interface that end users are accustomed to using while also modernizing its backend systems, including eliminating the need to sync the discovery layer with the ILS. GOBI® customers using FOLIO will benefit from a streamlined book selection and acquisition workflow. When an order is placed in GOBI, it is seamlessly reflected in FOLIO with the purchase number, bib record, and all associated order details and can be processed via electronic invoicing.
